Addressing This Summer’s Grief

Has your summer been the way you imagined or hoped it would be? Mine hasn’t. I usually look forward to summer being a time of sunshine, vacation, my birthday, and fun events, but this year hasn’t quite been the same. I had sent out my free songwriting template this month on things we CAN enjoy this summer because I needed a reminder of things to be grateful for, but I think it’s important that we also address the grief that exists this year. Last week, Mabel Ortiz with Limitless Harmonies and I started discussing the various emotions we’ve felt and have seen in our clients recently. I think it’s become more clear to me with my upcoming vacation being cancelled just how much there is to process. Long story short, Mabel and I had a very fruitful conversation - so fruitful in fact, that we wanted to share some resources with you (available in the link at the end).

Discussing Grief with Songwriting

If you haven’t noticed, I enjoy songwriting interventions with clients. So when one of my clients brought up that they thought this summer is depressing, we processed that through a songwriting experience. I wanted to share this songwriting template with you to allow others to have this conversation too.

Continuing the Discussion

Mabel created a complimentary guide to assist in facilitating discussion on this topic. Grief and trauma can be hard topics to approach, so the hope is this guide will provide some support for starting these discussions.

Continuing the Music

This conversation likely won’t be over after one songwriting experience or one discussion guide. I’ve compiled a Spotify playlist that can be found here for more lyric discussion inspiration.
